A vacancy has arisen for a Software Systems Engineer to take responsibility for the design, development and maintenance of the software and control systems for existing and future software projects including writing of all documentation relating to these software projects.

 

1. Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out analysis of software requirements according to product definition and specific customer needs as required, working with product development and production teams.
  • Ensure timely generation of the required system specifications including design, system interfaces and product definition.
  • Design and development of software code to meet specified requirements using the software language(s) most appropriate to the system.
  • Prepare module descriptions, test plans and procedures and other software documentation as required, verifying that the software product is in accordance with the specified requirements.
  • Prepare all necessary design review documentation and distribute to Company personnel as appropriate for discussion.
  • Liaise with end users and other relevant contractors and sub-contractors in order to ensure compliance with system requirements.
  • Support field installations on site around the world as required.
  • Participate in investigations into system problems which may arise at any stage from design, coding and testing through to acceptance and on-going use of the products.
  • Propose, define and implement solutions to problems including bug-fixing and system modification and/or enhancement so as to prevent as far as possible recurrence of problems.
  • Ensure the adequate and timely training of personnel within the company.
  • Maintain own technical knowledge at an acceptably high and current level.
  • Establish and maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Company’s legacy systems control software (VB.NET) and provide a complete back up to the Software Systems Manager in relation to the core systems and other products.

 

2. Education / Qualifications and Experience

  • The job holder will have technical responsibility for all aspects of the software relating to company products and projects. The successful candidate will be educated to HND / Degree level preferably in Computer Science or Mathematics and have a solid background in software development of at least 5 years or more. You will be proficient in VB.Net in an engineering environment and have experience of, or an interest in, machine / motion control software and hardware interaction. Some experience in laser control or PLC’s is desirable but not essential.

 

3. Personal Qualities

  • Capable of clear thinking and informed decision-making to develop and support complex automation systems and machine tool products within cost, quality and timescale constraints.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined with a strong technical awareness to progress tasks and facilitate the smooth and timely release of software in accordance with business objectives. 
  • Ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to plan and coordinate in house resources during the design, build and test phases of projects.

A vacancy has arisen for a Research & Technology Engineer to support the team in the implementation of research, technology and development work, undertaking research projects, with responsibility for the up keep of the research group’s facilities including demonstration systems, lasers and test and measurement equipment.

 

1. Key Responsibilities

  • To assist with the efficient running of the wire samples service; processing samples, providing reports and maintaining the wire samples database. 
  • To work with the Head of R&T with the effective set-up and use of the Applications Facility. 
  • Plan and undertake applied research projects utilising the latest enabling technologies to support the future development of our systems and products.
  • Support and coordinate the Job Shop Service acting as the supervisor for system set-up, performing service, maintenance and operations support.
  • Collaborate and provide support to other department teams. For example, maintain, operate and configure the facilities in support of applications assessment, use of the equipment as part of project work, demonstration of company equipment on behalf of Sales and Marketing.
  • Responsible for wire inventory keeping note of current stock of Aerospace wire and cables kept in-house for samples and R&T / Engineering requirements.
  • To test and evaluate equipment; both third party equipment and equipment developed and constructed in-house.
  • To collect data from such work, reporting findings and assessing the analysis of the data. 
  • Undertake any other projects and duties as requested and which are within the competence of the job holder.

 

2. Education / Qualifications and Experience

  • The ideal candidate will be qualified to degree level in Physics, Chemistry or equivalent; experience of studying and / or working with lasers would be an advantage.
